COLORES DE LA PAZ

The film, “Colores de la Paz",” was created to describe the inter-related aspects of La Paz life. After conducting a summer program in the city, it became apparent that the markets were a hub of local food and commerce, transit, social life and active community-making processes. By documenting these relationships through film, a narrative is composed that introduces the ecosystem of healthy urban life to the people that live there, and beyond.

MERCADO BRAVO

“Mercado Bravo” provides a more detailed study of a single market in La Paz, the capital city of Baja California Sur. As is said in the final credits of the film, “Mercado Bravo reveals deep connections within the traditions and fabric of La Paz culture. Such traditions are carried forward in a changing, global economy.” This film “Illuminates the contingent relationships (and value) that cannot be mapped. This project is a study of peotics; of space, of people, of value.”

Documentary filmmaking, as an instrument, was used to infiltrate the places and people of a foreign land. Through this method of engagement, residents were open to discussions and provided context to their situation, thus revealing the ecosystem of the community.

Occasional collaborator Miguel Buenrostro created and produced the film “Mercado Bravo” with conceptual and creative guidance by Brian Cook, Wide Open Office.
